Description

WILLIAM LEWIS AND SONS, Circa 1022-1929  ----- Hand made in Germany, probably Markneukirchen.   Excellent old Lewis and Sons, professional level instrument.  Re-voiced to a Bluegrass recipe and a turbo hump-back bass bar added for immediate response.  This fiddle has a monster sound.  The tone is medium dark and the "E" string is very strong and commanding, probably my best "E" sound to date.  This violin feels almost alive in my hands.  The violin is full size 4/4 and measures about 23-1/2" long, the upper bout is 6-1/2" and the lower bout is a fraction under 8".  This is a high quality instrument of quality construction.  It has 4 corner blocks and the back is pinned both top and bottom.
This fiddle has a fine tuned Aubert bridge, a Wittner tail piece made of carbon fiber with built in fine tuners that turn smooth as butter, brand new Heli-core medium strings, a new rosewood end pin, new rosewood pegs that turn very smoothly and hold well, new ebony nut and a new Guarneri ebony chin rest. The fingerboard has been planed so this fiddle is good to go for years to come.   I have noticed a couple of small drips/runs in the varnish on the upper left bout so
I am not positive that the varnish is 100% original but I believe it is, or someone may have re-touched the varnish in the past.
I have a lot of time and quality parts invested in this outstanding fiddle so the price is firm but worth it.
