It has now been polished up and given a light cleaning. Photo 8 shows the one pit that couldn't be removed. Photo 10 shows you the worst ding (there are only a couple other much smaller dings), along with a spot where the person doing the polishing wore right through the thin copper plating. There is one other, smaller spot of wear-through, but I couldn't get a decent picture of it. It came without a cord, and I have not replaced the cord. I believe that authentic-appearing new cord material is available (the original was brown, cloth-wrapped cord), if you wish to put a cord on it. While I had the cover off for polishing, I did attach a cord to test it, and it heated up very well and popped up properly (see photo 11). The Bakelite parts are very good. RARE TOASTMASTER MODEL 1B24 WITH COPPER PLATED FINISH! TESTED, WORKS (When cord is replaced, of course)
ONLY A FEW HUNDRED OF THESE WERE MANUFACTURED.
Note that the copper-plated shroud has been cleaned and polished, but it has NOT been re-coated with a clear-coat material. This means that the shroud will slowly tarnish over time, if left this way. An occasional cleaning and polishing with copper cleaner will keep it looking bright. The reason it was not re-coated is so that if the buyer wishes to have the shroud re-plated with new copper, it will not be necessary to remove the clear-coat first. In addition, one of the problems with the original clear finish on these toasters was that it deteriorated and then the surface would begin to tarnish, anyway. Look at the last photo to see what the toaster would look like when that happened. Not good...
